So by now most of you have probably heard- I am in the process of returning to Odessa, Ukraine to serve as a missionary long-term!!! I am super pumped :) What does long-term service mean? Does that mean I'll forget English and never talk to people in the U.S. again? Does that mean that the next time I'll be home is when my 105 year-old dead body is sent back to America in a casket? The answer to both questions: Gosh I hope not!!! First, I love talking FAR too much to forget English (see: old blog posts to see how successful I was in speaking Russian at times... I will not forget my native tongue!). Second, I'm down for staying in Ukraine as long as the Lord has me there, which could actually mean staying there until I'm dead, but in all likelihood I'll be back in the States every 3-4ish years (and if you come visit me in Odessa, you can see me even more often!!!).
Long-term ministry is better called "open-ended ministry". It's a fancy way to say I'm open to wherever the Lord is leading, for however long He wants me there, whether for 5 years, 10 years, or 87 years. I'm following where He is leading me and learning a bit more about faith along the way.
I wanted to express my sincere, heartfelt thanks to you all, family and friends who have been praying, giving, encouraging, and laughing with me throughout my short-term adventures to Ukraine and back. You have been such an encouragement to me and a great example of what the Church of Jesus Christ is and does.
Thank you!!!
